Call for Quality: Open Source Software Quality Observation
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes how a Software Quality Observatory works to evaluate and quantify the quality of an Open Source project. Such a quality measurement can be used by organizations intending to deploy an Open Source solution to pick one of the available projects for use. We offer a case description of how the Software Quality Observatory will be applied to the KDE project to document and evaluate its quality practices for outsiders.

Free/Libre Open Source Quality Models - a comparison between two approaches
This paper presents a comparison of a first generation software quality model (OpenBRR) and a second generation software quality model (QualOSS) by applying them to the case of Asterisk, a FLOSS implementation of a telephone private branch exchange (PBX, VoIP). Examining the trends and evolution of software quality models and identifying differences in the approaches and assessment outcomes, th...
متن کاملQ-SOS - A Sensor Observation Service for Accessing Quality Descriptions of Environmental Data
The worldwide Sensor Web comprises observation data from diverse sources. Each data provider may process and assess datasets differently before making them available online. This information is often invisible to end users. Therefore, publishing observation data with quality descriptions is vital as it helps users to assess the suitability of data for their applications. It is also important to...
متن کاملOpen source software - an evaluation
The success of Linux and Apache has strengthened the opinion that the open source paradigm is one of the most promising strategies to enhance the maturity, quality, and efficiency of software development activities. This observation, however, has not been discussed in much detail and critically addressed by the software engineering community. Most of the claims associated with open source appea...
متن کاملAn Object Oriented Runtime Complexity Metric based on Iterative Decision Points
Software metrics are used to measure the quality of a software system. Such metrics indicate the level of desired quality present in a system. However software metrics have traditionally been captured at compile time, rendering useful results, but often times inexact, as the complete source code differs from the executing subset. For this reason, static metrics can fall short of measuring the t...
متن کاملA Review of Models for Evaluating Quality in Open Source Software
Open source products/projects targeting the same or similar applications are common nowadays. This makes choosing a tricky task. Quality is one factor that can be considered when choosing among similar open source solutions. In order to measure quality in software, quality models can be used. Open source quality models emerged due to the inability of traditional quality models to measure unique...
